1. Andrew Forrest
A mining entrepreneur, Andrew Forrest is the CEO and one of the largest shareholders of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) Limited, a major mining company. Forrest graduated from Hale School, Perth, and soon upon graduation he started his career as stockbroker and later quit to co-found one of Australia’s largest mineral exporters.
2. Graeme Hart
Graeme Hart is presently the richest person in New Zealand and is known for his low-key publicity. Hart also has a fantastic knack of buying non-performing companies and turn them into corporate giants. His private investment company, Rank Group owns two major industrial companies in New Zealand – Burns Philp and Carter Holt Harvey.
3. James Packer
Rather than building his own wealth, James Packer is classified among the lucky ones as his fortune is inherited from his late billionaire father Kerry Packer, a media mogul. Apart from inheriting his family’s wealth, James is also the boss of Publishing and Broadcasting Limited (PBL) which operates a significant number of TV and media stations
4. Frank Lowy
Czech-born Frank Lowy is mostly known as a man who co-found The Westfield Group, which is a major retail chain operating in New Zealand, Australia, United States and United Kingdom. His parents migrated from the Europe after the World War II ended and started a small grocery business and delivering goods to customers.
5. Harry Triguboff
Harry Triguboff was born and raised in China before migrating to Australia during his youth to continue his schooling. Later, he went to pursue his tertiary education in England, graduating from the University of Leeds. Harry worked a number of odd jobs including a taxi driver and a milk man before establishing Meriton Apartments, which evolved into one of the most successful property developers in Australia.
